Overview
Casa Media (“Casa,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) publishes Casa, a home and lifestyle journal supported in part by affiliate links. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you read the site, subscribe to our newsletter, or contact us, and what we do with it.
Casa is a reading site, not a service you log in to. There are no accounts, no comment forms, and no checkout. Most visits involve no personal information at all.
This policy applies to casa.app and to emails we send. It is subject to our Terms of Use. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the site.
Information you provide
We collect information only when you choose to give it to us. That happens in two ways:
- Newsletter. When you subscribe to The Sunday Letter, we collect your email address and, if you enter it, your first name. We use them to send the newsletter and to personalize it.
- Contact. When you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write. We keep the correspondence so we can reply and follow up.
If you reach us through a social media platform, we also receive whatever that platform shares with us, subject to its own privacy policy.
Information collected automatically
Casa is a static site. As with any website, our hosting provider records technical information about each request, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you requested, the referring page, and the approximate region the request came from. That data is used to deliver the site and to protect it from abuse, and we see it only in aggregate form.
Page typography is served by Google Fonts, which receives your IP address and browser details when the font files load. Google’s handling of that request is described in its own privacy policy.
We use Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how many people read the site and which stories they find useful. It records the pages you visit, the referring page, your approximate location, and your browser and device type. We have no interest in who you are as an individual, and the reports we look at are counts and trends, not people. Google processes this data on our behalf and describes its own practices in its privacy policy. You can opt out across every site that uses it with Google’s browser add-on.
We do not run advertising pixels, and we do not use analytics data to target advertising to you.
Affiliate links
Some links on Casa are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, the merchant or its affiliate network may pay us a commission. The affiliate link carries a Casa identifier so the sale can be attributed to us. It does not carry your name, email address, or any other personal information from this site.
Affiliate networks report purchases to us in aggregate: the merchant, the order total, and the commission. We do not receive your identity, shipping address, or payment details, and we cannot see what you bought. Our affiliate disclosure explains how these links appear on the site.
How we use it
We use the information described above to publish and deliver the site; send the newsletter you asked for; answer your messages; understand, in aggregate, which stories readers find useful; and keep the site secure and working.
We also use it where necessary to enforce our policies, defend our legal rights, and comply with applicable law. We never use your information to build a profile of you or to sell to you on behalf of anyone else.
Retention
We keep your newsletter subscription until you unsubscribe, and then remove your address from our list. We keep email correspondence for as long as it is useful to answer your question or maintain a record of the exchange, and we delete it when it is no longer needed. Hosting logs are retained by our provider on its own schedule and are not kept by us, and analytics data is retained by Google on the schedule set in our account.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, so what you read and what you type into the newsletter form travel encrypted. Subscriber data lives with our newsletter provider, which restricts access to it, and only the people who run Casa can reach it.
No system is perfectly secure. If you notice anything suspicious involving Casa, such as an email that claims to be from us but looks wrong, let us know at hello@casa.app.
Your choices & rights
Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately. You can also ask us to update or delete your address by email.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to object to how we use it. We honor these rights as required by applicable law. We may ask you to verify your identity before responding, and we may decline requests that are excessive, repetitive, or abusive.
Children
Casa is written for adults setting up their homes. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has subscribed to the newsletter or emailed us, contact us at hello@casa.app and we will delete the information.
Changes
We may update this policy as the site evolves, for example if we change how we measure the audience or add a new way to subscribe. When we do, we will post the revised policy here and update the effective date. If a change is significant, we will also mention it in the newsletter. Continued use of the site after a change is posted means you accept the revised policy.
